TORONTO — A male worker employed by Toronto Hydro Electric Systems Ltd. has died of injuries suffered after he made accidental contact with live wires in an electrical vault in a building in Toronto’s Bloor West Village Aug. 12.
Toronto Hydro posted on its website that Kurtis Cleaveley, a Certified Power Cable Apprentice employed by the firm, died the weekend of Aug. 15-16.
Initial reports said Cleaveley had no vital signs and that workers from Toronto Paramedic Services attempted to resuscitate him at the scene.
A GoFundMe page originally indicated Cleaveley had been revived but on Aug. 16 reported his death.
The Toronto Hydro post stated, “We’re thinking about his family and friends at this difficult time and our number one priority is supporting all those who have been affected by his death, including his Toronto Hydro colleagues. We’re all grieving the loss of this young life.”
The incident occurred in a building located at Willard Avenue and Bloor Street West. The call went out to police around 12:30 p.m. The incident was being investigated as a construction incident, the Ministry of Labour reported.
