Rebar worker in serious condition after fall at Eglinton Crosslinx site

TORONTOA construction worker is in serious but not life-threatening condition after he fell into a hole at the Eglinton Crosslinx jobsite in Forest Hill in Toronto.

Toronto Police received a call at 6:08 a.m. Monday (Oct. 19) morning reporting that a man fell into a hole at the LRT construction site at Bathurst Street and Eglinton Avenue West. Metrolinx reported a rebar worker fell into the hole and that Toronto Fire and paramedics were able to use the construction tracks in the hole to move him safely. He was then lifted out by a construction crane.

Toronto Paramedic Services transported him to Sunnybrook health centre.

Metrolinx spokesperson Anne Marie Aikins said in a statement, “Safety is our first priority and critical to everything we do.

We are grateful to all the first responders who assisted the Crosslinx worker this morning and we all wish him a speedy and full recovery.

The Ministry of Labour has been informed.

“We will cooperate with and support the investigation along with Crosslinx,” said Aikins. “While the investigation is underway it is important we not speak to the specifics as to what happened so as not to interfere in the investigation.
