OSHAWA, ONT. — A construction worker has died as a result of injuries suffered while working on a project at Ontario Tech University in Oshawa.
The worker was said to be killed after being hit by a slab of concrete during the noon hour yesterday, Dec. 15. A new 80,000-square-foot Academic Building is under construction on the site on Founders Drive. Eastern Construction is the contractor at the site and the employer is 2K4 2018 Inc. Two ministry inspectors and a ministry engineer inspected the scene and one requirement was issued to the constructor. The investigation is continuing.
Ontario Tech president Steven Murphy wrote on Twitter last night, “While an active investigation is ongoing, we grieve the death of a construction worker, killed accidentally while working on our new building today. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family tonight.”
This is the fourth construction-related fatality in less than a week in the province. Two workers were killed after a partial building collapse in London, Ont. Dec. 11 and another worker was killed at a Toronto project on Dec. 14.
