Ironworker injured on downtown Toronto job

TORONTO — An ironworker was critically injured Feb. 2 when crushed by a steel truss on a jobsite at 81-141 Bay St. in downtown Toronto.

The injury occurred around 4 a.m. The worker, aged approximately 30, was hospitalized with multiple injuries but is now back at his home in Burlington, Ont.

The Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development reported it sent one inspector to the site and three requirements were dispatched. One was issued to the constructor, EllisDon; one to an employer, SuperMetal Construction Inc.; and another to an employer, Sarens Canada.

The ministry investigation continues.
