Fewer workplace outbreaks and closures reported as Ontario starts to reopen

TORONTOThe province of Ontario entered into step one of its reopening plan June 11 and while outbreaks in workplaces have gone down significantly there are still a few to report in Toronto and Peel.

EM Dynamics in Toronto, specializing in manufacturing and engineering solutions, was ordered to fully close on June 6. Mississauga, Ont.-based Pioneer Steel Buildings was ordered to partially close on June 5.

In Toronto, there are currently seven active outbreaks in the workplace category which includes construction and manufacturing.

Mitrex Integrated Solar Technologies was ordered to partially close June 1 and remains closed.

The Roadmap to Reopen is the province’s three-step plan to gradually lift public health measures and restrictions imposed in an effort to stop the spread of COVID-19. The plan is based on the provincewide vaccination rate improvements in key public health and health care indicators, indicates a release.

All construction is permitted under step one of the province’s plan.

It will be 21 days before the province moves to step two of reopening.
