Sponsored Content: CSA Group - Helping to understand how material choices affect the carbon footprint of construction projects

The selection of building materials with low environmental impact is an important part of green building certification programs. But until now, a lack of industry standards to recognize and reward low carbon intensity cement or concrete has made it difficult for specifiers to give their preference to materials manufactured with a lower carbon footprint.

“Increasingly, architects, engineers, and other building professionals want to understand how their construction material choices affect the carbon footprint of their projects. CarbonStar® provides an easy-to-use metric that allows specifiers of concrete to optimize the carbon footprint of their projects at the design stage, helping project teams identify strategies and new technologies that dramatically reduce and even sequester carbon in concrete.”  Adam Auer, Director of Sustainability, Cement Association of Canada
