TORONTO — PCL Constructors Canada Inc. (Toronto), in collaboration with its industry partners, dedicated the first week of May to recognizing industry safety with its employees, hourly workforce and trade partners. Following Construction Safety Week’s theme Connected. Supported. Safe., PCL Toronto’s campaign focused on falling object prevention and mental health awareness, which included sharing learning materials and helpful resources in toolbox talks.
All PCL Toronto project sites held interactive safety activities for workers, who participated in fall protection equipment and tool material tethering demonstrations from 3M, banner signings and posting cards on why we work safe. PCL Toronto also held activities at its district office, such as a demo of RISE, construction safety and scaffold hazard awareness training delivered by virtual reality.
PCL Toronto shared stories about its safety culture, including a feature on Tom Erger, who was PCL Toronto’s safety and loss prevention manager in the ‘90s.
PCL Toronto created its annual safety award in honour of Erger to recognize the outstanding safety achievements of PCL Toronto projects.
