Worker killed at Toronto Eglinton Crosslinx site

TORONTO — A worker for GFL/Coco Paving was killed last month at a Toronto worksite after being struck by a cement truck.

The incident occurred May 25 at Cedarvale Station site, part of the Eglinton Crosstown LRT project. Coco Paving is a subcontractor on the site, working under Crosslinx Transit Solutions.

Ontario’s Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development shut down the worksite for five days to investigate the incident, releasing the site to Crosslinx on May 30.

Toronto Police, the Ministry of Labour and Crosslinx each launched investigations that are continuing.

Metrolinx said in a statement it was informed of the incident around 4:30 p.m. May 25. The worker was pronounced dead on the site.

“Our heartfelt condolences go out to the worker’s loved ones and all staff working on the project,” stated Anne Marie Aikins, chief spokesperson for Metrolinx.

The Ministry of Labour has issued 15 requirements in relation to the mishap.
