Inquest into Oro quarry death set for January

TORONTO — An Ontario coroner has announced the date for the inquest into the death of a man who died at a quarry in Oro, Ont.

Michael Pridham, 35, died in hospital on Dec. 21, 2018, from injuries sustained while working at the quarry. An inquest into his death is mandatory under the Coroners Act.

The inquest was called by Dr. Kenneth Peckham, regional supervising coroner for Central Region, Central West Office. The inquest will examine the circumstances surrounding Pridham’s death and the jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing future deaths in similar circumstances.

The inquest is expected to last three days and hear from approximately seven witnesses. It will start at 9:30 a.m. on Jan. 9 at the Four Points Sheraton, 60 Bryne Dr., Barrie.

Dr. Geoffrey Bond will be the presiding officer and Jennifer Armenise will be inquest counsel.
