UPDATE: Driver faces multiple charges after striking construction worker

TORONTO – A construction worker was sent to hospital in life-threatening condition after he was struck by a vehicle at 12:34 a.m. this (Friday) morning in the southbound lanes of Allen Road near Lawrence Avenue.

Toronto police report the 38-year-old man was working on the left shoulder of Allen Road in the designated construction area between the Glencairn Avenue and Viewmount Avenue overpasses when he was struck. The 2009 Volvo XC90 then veered off into a dirt mound and rolled over.

Allen Road was subsequently closed for hours but has since reopened.

The driver of the vehicle was taken into custody.

Nelson Jacob-Louis, 35, of Toronto has been charged with impaired operation of a conveyance causing bodily harm; impaired operation of a conveyance – exceeding blood alcohol concentration; and carrying a concealed weapon. 

He is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday, March 29.

The investigation is ongoing.
