BOWMANVILLE, ONT. — A worker has died in a workplace incident at St Marys Cement in Bowmanville this morning (March 21).
According to media reports, the worker was found trapped just before 8:30 a.m. and removed with “vital signs absent.”
EMS attended the site, located at 400 Bowmanville Ave., and pulled the worker out.
“We can confirm that on the morning of Tuesday, March 21, a third-party contractor was involved in an accident and succumbed to fatal injuries while working at the site,” said a spokesperson from St Marys Cement in an email to the Daily Commercial News.
“First and foremost, our deepest sympathies go out to the family, friends and coworkers of the individual. We are working with Ministry of Labour inspectors as an investigation into the incident is underway. Out of respect for the worker, their family and their employer, the company is not disclosing any additional details at this time.”
The Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development has been notified of the fatality. Two ministry inspectors have been assigned and the investigation is ongoing.
