Youth invited to submit videos for Focus on Safety contest

Youth invited to submit videos for Focus on Safety contest

HAMILTON, ONT. — The Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety is inviting youth from across Canada to develop an original video that illustrates the importance of working safely on the job for the Focus on Safety youth contest.

Each province has its own deadline. Those who win the provincial contest or the regional qualifier will automatically move on to the national contest, where a panel of judges will determine the best of the best. The team/individual with the first place video in the national finals will win $2,000, second place will receive $1,500 and third place will receive $1,000. Plus each winning school will receive a matching prize.

The contest is open to all youth ages 13 to 19 years old who reside in a province without a provincial contest. If you reside in another province or territory, you can enter through your provincial/territorial contest. You may enter as an individual or as a team.

In order to be eligible, the video submission must be an original work; be two minutes or less in length; not violate any laws or third-party rights, including copyright, patent and trademark rights; not include personal information; and be received by April 7.

The winning individual/team will receive $1,000 and their school/institution will receive $1,000. The winning video will also qualify for the national Focus on Safety video contest.

A panel will judge eligible entries as follows: 25 per cent creativity; 25 per cent persuasiveness and impact; 25 per cent overall presentation of workplace message; and 25 per cent technical quality.
