TORONTO — Court dates have been set for two separate cases stemming from worker fatalities on construction sites in Ontario in December 2020.
In a Toronto case, Limen Group Const. (2019) Ltd. was charged with eight violations of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) for its role in a Dec. 14, 2020 death at a Toronto jobsite. Charges were also laid against two supervisors and two workers.
The matter is scheduled for trial beginning on June 9 at the Ontario Court of Justice in Toronto.
The other case involved two deaths resulting from the Dec. 11, 2020 collapse of part of a low-rise residential building under construction on Wonderland Road in London.
Construction workers John Martens of Langton, Ont. and Henry Harder of Tillsonburg, Ont. died in the incident.
Seven charges under the OHSA were laid against iSpan Systems LP and East Elgin Concrete Forming Ltd. in the mishap. An eighth charge was laid against an individual for allegedly providing negligent advice that endangered a worker.
Pre-trial is scheduled to continue on June 13 at the Ontario Court of Justice in London.
Charges in both cases were laid in December 2021.
