Tampers stolen from Barrie construction site

Tampers stolen from Barrie construction site

BARRIE, ONT. — Barrie police are investigating the theft of construction equipment from a construction site at Mapleview Drive East and Madeline Drive in Barrie, Ont.

Police have determined a 1,000-pound Wacker diesel 28-inch reversible plate tamper used in the compaction of soils was likely stolen on May 31 or June 1 from the area of Madeline Drive and Copperhill Heights. The machine is valued at over $20,000.

It is thought, given the size and weight of the tamper, that a piece of equipment capable of lifting the apparatus along with a truck or trailer would have been required to carry out the theft and likely multiple people would have been involved.

Two additional tampers were also stolen from the same jobsite and reported to Barrie police on May 29. The tampers were also both valued at $20,000 and were likely stolen sometime between May 25 and May 29.

The police are looking for any information to help in their investigation.
