TORONTO – A man has died after he fell at the Ashbridges Bay Water Treatment Plant in Leslieville this morning.
Reports indicate the man fell about 100 feet or several storeys.
Emergency crews attended the scene around 11:30 a.m. and pronounced the man dead.
Police labelled the incident an industrial accident.
The reported employer is North Tunnel Constructors and the incident is linked to the Coxwell Bypass Tunnel project. A statement from Jay Dee Contractors, managing member of North Tunnel Constructors, issued a statement expressing their condolences.
“We are deeply saddened to confirm a tragic fatality that occurred earlier today at this site, the Coxwell Bypass Tunnel construction project,” said Mike DiPonio, president, Jay Dee Contractors, Inc., Livonia, Michigan/Jay Dee Contractors of Canada, in a statement.
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family, friends and colleagues during this incredibly difficult time. We intend to fully understand the circumstances that led to this incident and will provide all necessary support to ensure a thorough and transparent review. We are also offering grief counseling and support to our employees who are affected by this incident. Their safety and well-being are of utmost importance to us, and we will ensure they have the resources they need during this difficult time. We are dedicated to keeping you informed as we learn more about the circumstances of this incident. Our top priority is to ensure the safety and well-being of our employees, partners, and the community.”
The Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development is investigating.
