Fire destroys home under construction in Richmond Hill

Fire destroys home under construction in Richmond Hill

TORONTO—An early morning fire has left a home under construction completely destroyed.

A residential fire broke out on Duncan Road near Bayview and 16th Avenues in Richmond Hill, Ont. York Regional Police received the call at 11:45 a.m. today (March 11).

“We received numerous calls for a house that was fully engulfed. When we arrived we began evacuating residents of nearby homes as the fire was quickly spreading,” Const. Lisa Moskaluk, media relations officer with York Regional Police, told the Daily Commercial News.

The home under construction was unoccupied at the time. Richmond Hill Fire and Emergency Services attended the scene to put out the fire.

“The home that was actually under construction was completely destroyed and two adjacent homes were severely damaged, however, no one was injured because we were able to evacuate everyone and quite quickly,” said Moskaluk, adding some residents on adjacent streets were also evacuated.

“Residents of two (adjacent) homes have not returned home because their homes were severely damaged in the fire.”

The cause of the fire is still unknown.

“It’s still early but the Office of the Fire Marshal is engaged. Pending their investigation we won’t know the cause of the fire,” she said.
