WHITBY, ONT. — An incident that occurred at a worksite in Whitby, Ont. this morning (May 7) has left one man dead.

At approximately 11:30 a.m., Durham Regional Police Services (DRPS) responded to an assist ambulance call in the area of Hopkins Street and Consumers Drive in Whitby.

The information received was that a male was trapped under a steam roller and was unconscious, said a DRPS spokesperson in an email to the Daily Commercial News.

The male victim did not have any vital signs so life-saving measures were commenced when emergency crews removed the steamroller.

The employer is Central Park Paving Company.

The Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development (MLITSD) was notified of the workplace fatality. It was reported that a worker suffered fatal injuries when they were struck by a piece of machinery, the MLITSD said in a statement.
