MISSISSAUGA, ONT. — After eight years, David Frame has stepped down as executive director of the League of Champions.

Frame was recognized during the health and safety advocacy group’s annual general meeting Oct. 17. He recalled the genesis of the organization.

“Eight years ago a number of members of the OGCA (Ontario General Contractors Association) and in particular, (former OGCA president) Clive Thurston, former OGCA chair Jason Ball, Craig Lesurf all met in New Orleans at an AGM and decided to form the League of Champions,” Frame recalled. “We’d been doing a lot of work with Rob Ellis and Rob had made us extremely aware of not just the pain of workplace accidents to the individuals but to their families as well. There was a recognition that the OGCA, through a new organization the League of Champions, could work with OGCA members and the construction industry to better construction health and safety by more companies being health and safety champions.”

He said he was pleased at how the organization has grown over the years.

“Not everybody gets to do the work they love to do,” he said. “That’s the big advantage with the League of Champions. I enjoyed just about every minute of it. I look forward to the future of the League of Champions, to see it grow, to see it prosper.”

Frame thanked Lesurf, chair and past-chair of the organization, for his leadership and support over the years.

“The League of Champions would not be what it is, it may not even be here if it wasn’t for Craig,” said Frame. “From the very first breakfast he is the one person that has always been there, always driving it forward, always had the passion. That passion continues to bring in new members all the time.”

The league will be looking for a new executive director.

“I’m stepping away, it’s time to retire,” he explained. “We’re going to be making some announcements very shortly about succession, but I’ll continue to be around. I will continue to support the League of Champions.”

Lesurf thanked Frame or his dedication.

“It’s a strong organization and it is because of people like David who put his time in and the effort to help better not just the industry but the league, the people, the workers,” Lesurf said. “It’s about making a difference.

“David, you made an improvement in the lives of Ontario workers and I want to thank you for that.”
