Infrastructure Ontario announced the groundbreaking of the new Waypoint Centre for Mental Health in Penetanguishene, in a design, build, finance and maintain contract with a consortium including EllisDon Corp.
The 312-bed mental health hospital is scheduled for substantial completion in 2013. The consortium, Integrated Team Solutions (ITS), includes EllisDon and Fengate Capital Management Ltd. Designed by Cannon Design, the facility will be maintained by Honeywell Ltd. It will replace the existing 160-bed Oak Ridge facility and the 20-bed Brebeuf facility.
The value of the contract is $474.1 million in current dollars but is anticipated to rise to $634.1 million over the 30-year life of the contract.
Waypoint Centre will provide acute and long-term psychiatric inpatient and outpatient services to Simcoe County, part of Dufferin County and part of Muskoka/Parry Sound. It will also provide a secure facility for patients “who have had involvement with the criminal justice system,” Infrastructure Ontario stated.
