Lafarge appoints Rene Thibault, Bob Cartmel as presidents for Western, Eastern Canada

Lafarge has appointed one president and chief executive officer each for the western and eastern provinces. Rene Thibault will be president and CEO for the four western provinces and three territories, plus the Pacific Northwest and Dakotas in the United States. Bob Cartmel will be president and CEO for the six provinces east of and including Ontario. Lafarge North America produces cement, gypsum, aggregates, concrete and asphalt.

Construction materials producer Lafarge Canada Inc. announced Tuesday its parent company has appointed one president and chief executive officer each for the western and eastern provinces.

Rene Thibault will be president and CEO for the four western provinces and three territories, plus the Pacific Northwest and Dakotas in the United States. Bob Cartmel will be president and CEO for the six provinces east of and including Ontario.

The Western Canada teams will be led from a head office in Calgary and the Eastern Canada head office is in Toronto.

“These appointments, bringing all of Lafarge's businesses together under a single leader in each geography, will provide further career development opportunities for employees, strengthen the company's customer approach as it delivers sustainable solutions to the construction industry and allow our community investment projects to be more focused,” Lafarge stated in a press release.

Lafarge North America produces cement, gypsum, aggregates, concrete and asphalt.

Thibault has more than 20 years of experience with Lafarge and has an engineering degree from Queen's University of Kingston, Ontario. He completed executive studies at Harvard Business School.

Cartmel has more than 25 years of experience with Lafarge. He has a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Wilfrid Laurier University of Waterloo, Ontario.
