Work has reached the top floor on the East Markham Community Centre and Library in Markham, Ontario, north of Toronto.
General contractor of the two-storey project with basement is PCL Constructors Canada Inc. and the construction manager is MHPM Project Managers Inc. The project will include a fitness centre, triple gymnasium, multi-purpose rooms, a rehearsal hall, three pools, a general library as well as a medical library. The centre will be linked to the Markham Stouffville Hospital and completion is expected early 2013. The owner is the Town of Markham and the project was designed by Perkins + Will Canada.
Consultants are: Halcrow Yolles (structural); MMM Group Ltd. (civil); Smith & Andersen Consulting Engineering (mechanical); Crossey Engineering Ltd. (electrical) and MBTW Watchorn (landscape). Subcontractors include: Ragno Excavating; Avenue Group (formwork); Gilbert Steel (rebar); Prestressed Systems Inc. (precast); Mometal Ontario Inc. (structural); Urban Mechanical Contracting (mechanical); Plan Group (electrical); Flynn Canada (windows/roofing) and ThyssenKrupp Elevator Ltd.
