Work is progressing on the new Durham York Energy Centre in Clarington, Ont.
General contractor for the state-of-the-art energy-from-waste facility is Courtice Power Partners (a joint venture of Kenaidan Contracting Ltd. and Barton-Malow Canada Inc.). The facility is a joint ownership between Durham Region and York Region and the design-build operator is Covanta Energy Corporation (Covanta Durham York Renewable Energy Limited Partnership).
The work includes preparing all foundations, assembling all pre-purchased owner supplied equipment including two boilers and stokers, two air pollution control systems (APC) consisting of a quench tower, dry lime reactor and baghouse along with auxiliary equipment, installation of a turbine generator and a switchyard that will feed electricity produced from the facility into the power grid.
Completion is scheduled for September 2014 and consultants are Sigma Energy Solutions and RCM Technologies Canada Corp.
