Work is underway for the Global Innovation Exchange building at Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo, Ont.
Bondfield Construction Co. Ltd. is general contractor for the four-storey facility that will include a 1000-seat auditorium, computer and math labs, meeting rooms, faculty and administrative offices, student support spaces, a café and atrium. The project is aiming for LEED Gold and completion has been scheduled for spring 2015.
The owner is Wilfrid Laurier University and the project was designed by Diamond Schmitt Architects Inc./David Thompson Architect. Consultants are: Vanboxmeer & Stranges Engineering Ltd. (structural); MTE Consultants Inc. (civil); Smith + Andersen (mechanical/electrical); Enermodal Engineering Ltd. (LEED) and dtah (landscape architect).
