The stars are going to be shining in Burlington — four stars to be exact.

Delta Hotels and Resorts has unveiled plans for a new waterfront hotel in Burlington, Ont. which will be the city’s first four-star full-service hotel.

"We are excited to grow our network of waterfront properties, which boast some of the most spectacular views in the country," said Ken Greene, Delta Hotels and Resorts president and CEO.

"The property’s prime waterfront and downtown location with unobstructed views of Lake Ontario is what sets it apart from the competition and its modern design and amenities will position the hotel as a product leader in the local marketplace."

The hotel is scheduled to begin construction in 2016 and open in 2018. The project is expected to create approximately 200 construction jobs in the community.

The hotel is part of the $210-million, Burlington Bridgework live-work-play project and will feature 152 guest rooms and also house 169 condo units in two towers. Prices for the units will run to $3.5 million. The complex will also feature 11,000 square feet of service and commercial space including a main ballroom, a full-service restaurant and lounge, plus an indoor pool and fitness centre, all aimed at condo residents, guests and the broader downtown community.

"This is a prime location and we are very pleased that this is going forward," said Bruce Krushelnicki,  City of Burlington planning and building director.

The project has been designed by Page and Steel/IBI Group Architects. They are the group behind the Delta’s flagship hotel on Gerrard Street in downtown Toronto which recently underwent a major renovation and is slated to open its new doors this month.

"We are pleased to introduce Delta’s elevated four-star, full-service hotel as a valuable component of our Bridgewater development," said Charles Mady, MADY Development Corporation CEO, who is overseeing the project.

"Delta’s modern design and focus on exceeding guest expectations combined with our prime waterfront location and stunning views will deliver and exceptional experience for guests travelling to the region."

The development will provide direct access to the Waterfront Trail and Lake Ontario. It is also within close proximity to downtown boutiques and mall shopping, as well as an array of cultural and outdoor attractions including the Royal Botanical Gardens, Joseph Brant Museum and Ireland House, the Burlington Art Centre, the Brant Street Pier and the Iroquois section of the Bruce Trail.

It will also be located with easy access to the GO train network, the 400 series of highways and international airports.

This will be Delta’s 10th property in Ontario, with new properties opening in cities such as Kingston, Ottawa, Waterloo and Thunder Bay.

Burlington was ranked one of Canada’s Best Places to Live in 2014 by Money Sense with the average cost of a home close to $500,000.
