OTTAWA—Canadian hotelier Group Germain Hotels has inaugurated its first property in the nation’s capital with the opening of the new Alt Hotel Ottawa on May 3.
Located on Slater Street in the business district, the Alt Hotel Ottawa is the Group’s seventh property under the Alt banner.
Designed by Lemaymichaud Architecture Design and Chmiel Architects, the 14-floor, 148-room Alt Hotel Ottawa features almost 4,000 square feet of meeting space furnished with large format televisions and projection screens, notes a media release.
Green building features at the new hotel include geothermal heating and cooling, energy-efficient lighting in all rooms and a heat recovery system.
The firm also unveiled an original photographic installation created from the images of Canadian photographer Jean-François Frenette Altexpo to decorate the lobby of the new hotel in mural form.
Construction under Broccolini was completed at the end of March 2016.
The build is valued at close to $30 million.
Jean-Yves Germain, co-president of Group Germain Hotels, said the firm’s goal is to reach 20 hotels across the country by 2020.
A second Le Germain Hotel is expected to open in Ottawa in 2017, he said. The firm’s first hotel opened in 1998.
Group Germain Hotels has offices in Montreal and Quebec City.
