Valhalla Equestrian Centre takes top CFBA award

A construction firm that specializes in building equestrian facilities has garnered the top nod at the Canadian Farm Builders Association (CFBA) annual awards for the second year in a row.

Dutch Masters Design and Construction Services Ltd., based in Barrie, Ont. won the association’s project of the year award for its work on the Valhalla Equestrian Centre in King City, Ont. In 2015, the company won the award for a private stable development.

Partners also receiving recognition on the 2016 project are its project engineers, Tacoma Engineers based in Barrie and Guelph, and suppliers Mar-Span Truss, Agway Metals Inc., H. Van Moorsel Insulation, Greenwood Construction, Harry Huffman Engineering, and Auralite Panel Products Ltd.

According to the CFBA website, the winning facility features include a 40-stall stable divided into two wings, an indoor riding arena, entrance lobby, viewing lounge and office space.

It has elements such as vaulted ceilings in the stable corridors, entrance lobby and viewing lounge, foaling stalls and a contained four-stall area for quarantines. Other features include geothermal heating and high-efficiency LED lighting throughout, fire protection such as four-hour fire separation, fuse-activated fire shutters, a pressurized sprinkler system and automatic fire extinguishers mounted in the ceiling.

The facility is 45,606 square feet.

Other winners at this year’s awards presented at the association’s meeting in late January were the following:

Commercial/institutional facility: HFH Inc. of Guelph with project partners Tacoma Engineers, Mar-Span Truss and System Fencing of Rockwood.

Hobby/recreational facility: HFH Inc. with partners Tacoma Engineers and Mar-Span Truss.

Farm storage facility: Post Farm Structures Inc of Alma with partner Agway Metals Inc. of Brampton.

Horse I facility: HFH Inc. with partners Tacoma Engineers, System Fencing and Mar-Span Truss.

Poultry facility: HFH Inc. with partners Tacoma Engineers, Agway Metals and Mar-Span Truss.

Other livestock facility: HFH Inc. with partners John Vanderwoerd Drafting & Design of Arthur, Tacoma Engineers, Agway Metals and Mar-Span Truss.

Dairy facility: HFH Inc. with partners Stonecrest Engineering Inc. of Shakespeare, Agway Metals and Mar-Span Truss.

Swine facility: Middlesex Concrete Forming Ltd. of Kerwood with partners Micro City Engineering Services of Glencoe, Lafarge Canada Inc. and Andex Metals, Brampton.
