CLARINGTON, ONT. — A Bowmanville hospital redevelopment project is moving forward, thanks to support from the Ontario government.
The redevelopment plan includes the construction of a new hospital wing, which will replace the existing north wing, along with a new emergency department, surgical services, critical care unit, inpatient units and diagnostic imaging.
“This is an unprecedented time for health care across the region as the new Lakeridge Health builds an acute care system to better serve people living and working throughout Durham Region,” said Matthew Anderson, president and CEO of Lakeridge Health, in a statement. “This transformational renovation and expansion will provide modern facilities for our talented team to deliver care that will improve the patient experience and enhance access to those programs and services our community needs most.”
According to media reports, the redevelopment and expansion of Bowmanville hospital is expected to cost more than $100 million. A timeline was not announced.
Lakeridge Health is one of Ontario’s largest community hospitals with five hospital sites in Ajax, Pickering, Bowmanville, Oshawa, Port Perry and Whitby.
