Demolition work is underway at the Five Points Mall at Taunton and Ritson roads in Oshawa, Ont.

A variety of shops are coming down on one side of the mall, closest to Taunton Road, and will make way for a self-storage facility owned by Dymon Storage. The Ottawa-based company is currently expanding into the Greater Toronto Area and plans to convert the former Target store on the site into the facility, states a City of Oshawa report. RioCan will retain ownership of the balance of the property and plans to construct a new “open-air retail” site. The Metro grocery store located near the current demolition will not be torn down, but rather will become a standalone retail store. Other buildings at the existing shopping centre, including the Value Village, Jysk, Dollarama, LA Fitness, TD CanadaTrust, Wild Wing, Beer Store and Burger King, will also remain at the site.
