Development in Toronto’s Junction combines library, rental units

TORONTO — Toronto developer TAS has broken ground on a new hybrid library/rental residential complex in the Junction triangle of Toronto.

A June 16 announcement indicated TAS’s 14 storey, 235-unit rental apartment building at 299 Campbell Ave. will be the new home of the relocated Perth Dupont Branch of the Toronto Public Library (TPL).

A 14-storey Toronto development by TAS will combine new space for the Perth Dupont library branch with 235 units of rental apartments.
TAS — A 14-storey Toronto development by TAS will combine new space for the Perth Dupont library branch with 235 units of rental apartments.

Ground floor space will allow the library branch to expand their range of services to serve the local community, said the statement. The current Perth Dupont branch was 3,600 square feet, while the new one will be 10,000 square feet.

“299 Campbell represents a watershed moment for TAS,” said TAS president and CEO Mazyar Mortazavi in the statement. “This project is a culmination of the efforts of our team, along with the community, Councillor (Ana) Bailao and the Toronto Public Library.

“Through this collaborative approach we have realized a project that delivers on many firsts: the first rental building for TAS through our relationship with Bentall Kennedy, and a first in deep collaboration between this group of stakeholders.”

“The TPL is pleased to be working in partnership with the local councillor, City of Toronto, TAS and the local residents to build a new branch with more space and services to support the Junction community,” said library branch manager Gail MacFayden.

The project participants held a special event onsite June 16 to mark the groundbreaking. Previous TAS condo developments include Kingston&Co. in the Upper Beaches, Duke in the Junction and Zed Condos and M5V on King West.
