Ford plans R&D centre for new Kanata building

KANATA, ONT. — Quebec-based REIT Cominar has announced that Ford has signed on to lease 40,000 square feet in a new five-storey, 100,000-square-foot Class A building to be built in Kanata, Ont.

The Ford space will house a research and development centre with 300 engineering jobs created, said a Dec. 19 release. Cominar’s Palladium Campus will be built on Palladium Drive with first occupancy targeted for fall 2020.

The new building will feature multipurpose training and conference rooms, fitness and yoga facilities, secure indoor bike storage, an outdoor deck space with a barbecue, agora and volleyball court.

Other tenants will include Calian, KPMG, Sullivan and Orbcomm.

“Cominar is proud to contribute to the development of a major technology hub in the Greater Ottawa area,” said Marc Shank, Cominar vice-president of leasing for Ontario, in the statement. “We are confident that this project will be attuned to what the market is looking for in terms of sustainability and innovation.”
