NEW YORK, N.Y. — The first 11 gates in the eastern concourse of LaGuardia Airport’s new, state-of-the-art Terminal B are now open.

LaGuardia Gateway Partners (LGP) is the private entity operating and redeveloping Terminal B.

The partnership includes Vantage Airport Group, Skanska, Meridiam and JLC Infrastructure for development and equity investment; Skanska Walsh as the design-build joint venture; HOK and WSP for design; and Vantage Airport Group for management of the terminal operations.

Air Canada, American Airlines, Southwest Airlines and United Airlines will all be operating flights from the newly opened concourse.

The concourse features more gate seating with charging stations, a nursing room, the latest New York City location for the FAO Schwarz toy store and an airport themed children’s play area.

It also features Air Canada’s Maple Leaf Lounge and the United Club.

Dual pedestrian bridges will span active aircraft taxi lanes — the first in the world — and connect the main part of the terminal to two island concourses, indicates a release issued by Walsh.

The release also states that passengers will walk above aircraft as they make their way to their gate, while taking in views of the Manhattan skyline.

In addition, this island and bridge design will increase the taxi-way space for aircraft.

The 1.3-million-square-foot redevelopment of Terminal B, with a construction value of $4 billion, is one of the largest public-private partnerships in American history and the largest in U.S. aviation, adds the release.

The redevelopment project includes a new 35-gate terminal, a parking garage and a central hall, which will unify the airport by connecting to Terminal C, which is also being redeveloped.
