TORONTO — The Fairmont Royal York hotel in Toronto has announced details of the final phase of its recent multi-year renovation.
The new phase of work will include renovations to the lobby, arrival areas, wedding facilities, dining rooms and meeting spaces, said a recent statement.
The work will be completed by this summer to coincide with the hotel’s 90th anniversary.
There will also be two new Legacy Suites, renovated as luxury residential-style living spaces.
When completed 90 years ago, the 28-storey Royal York was the tallest building in the British Commonwealth and contained 1,048 rooms, a concert hall, library, extensive bakery, radio station, ballrooms, restaurants and a hospital.
“Fairmont Royal York has always been a defining feature of the Toronto skyline and we are excited to announce the next stage in its time-honoured history,” said Edwin Frizzell, regional vice-president and general manager of the hotel, in the release.
“As we celebrate 90 years of outstanding service, incredible people and history-making moments, it is with great pride that we prepare to unveil the most significant transformation this building has ever seen. A grand scale renovation that both modernizes the property and stays true to our past, this project is a reflection of our storied history and a look into our exciting future.”
