CLARINGTON — Ontario Power Generation (OPG) plans to build a new corporate headquarters on a campus setting in the Municipality of Clarington, Ont. located within Durham Region by 2024.
The new campus will include the existing Darlington Energy Complex located just south of Highway 401 and a new building to be constructed on adjacent land presently owned by OPG.
Once complete, the site will accommodate OPG staff from 15 existing locations across the Greater Toronto Area and Niagara Region, bringing over 2,000 jobs to Clarington, states a release issued by OPG June 10. All of OPG’s non-station-based positions in Toronto, Niagara and Durham region will be located on the new campus.
“We’re excited to be bringing together teams and technical expertise in one facility, which will reduce costs while also driving collaboration, advancing innovation and enhancing our organizational agility,” said Ken Hartwick, president and CEO of OPG, in a statement.
The plan demonstrates OPG’s commitment to cutting costs and delivering value for Ontario families and businesses by reducing its real estate costs, adds the release.
“This is an exciting opportunity for OPG to create a high-tech energy hub that promotes innovation and collaboration across the organization and with our partners and suppliers,” said Hartwick, in the statement.
“This new campus will also help OPG reduce its real estate footprint and reduce the use of commercial leased space thus reducing costs that will benefit the Ontario ratepayers.”
