Winners announced for 2019 CanBIM Innovation Spotlight Awards

TORONTO — The Canada BIM Council (CanBIM) recently announced the winners of the fifth annual Innovation Spotlight Awards as part of the CanBIM Toronto Regional Session, billed Technology Built Innovation V: Addressing the Affordable Housing Crisis Through Digital Innovation and Technology.

The 2019 award was designed through a collaborative effort from 2018 award winners Carleton Immersive Media Studio (2018 Academic Award and 2018 Best In Innovation) and DIALOG (2018 Design & Engineering Award), indicates a release, adding using digital design and fabrication methods, the team presented a short video outlining the process and inspiration prior to unveiling the 2019 awards.

For the awards, CanBIM recognized industry leaders in the following six award categories: academic, trades, general contractor, design & engineering, technology (in house) and technology (commercial).

The Best In Innovation Award Winner is selected from the winners of each of the award categories. CanBIM also recognized its Volunteer of the Year with the Trailblazer Award and recognized a distinguished leader with the Professional Achievement Award which goes to the CanBIM member who has made a significant and meaningful contribution to the advancement of Canada’s digital transformation through the implementation of technology and innovation, states the release.

The winners for the 2019 Innovation Spotlight Awards are:

  • Trailblazer Award: Harsh Vyas, VDC Coordinator, EllisDon
  • Academic Award: George Brown College CCET, Scanning and Mapping of Chester Le Community Housing
  • Trades Award: Plan Group, LCBO — 100 Queens Quay
  • Design & Engineering Award: Stantec, Shaping High-Rise Towers to Meet Future Energy Codes
  • General Contractors Award: Pomerleau, Willow Square Continuing Care Centre
  • Technology (In-House) Award: Hatch Bantrel Joint Venture, Jansen Project, Integrated Construction Center (ICC)
  • Technology (Commercial) Award: Revitzo, 3DreamTeam Inc.
  • Professional Achievement Award: Patrick Saavedra, York University
  • Best In Innovation: Plan Group, LCBO — 100 Queens Quay

The big winner of the night was Plan Group, winning both the Trades Award and Best In Innovation Award for its work on the LCBO located at 100 Queens Quay.
