TORONTO — Park Lawn Corporation has announced the launch of construction on a $15-million funeral visitation and reception centre at the Westminster Cemetery in Toronto.
The 32,100-square-foot facility will be the company’s first such centre in Canada, stated a March 2 release.
Construction begin in January with site plan approvals, and initial road work and site services are well underway. Completion is targeted for the end of 2021.
Construction of the visitation centre is the latest phase of the Westminster Cemetery Mausoleum and Cremation enhancement project. Park Lawn built a third floor to the Westminster Cemetery’s Mausoleum of Faith in the third quarter of 2019, adding an additional 1,080 crypt spaces. The cemetery is built on 36 acres.
The statement said Park Lawn expects considerable demand for the new facilities as a result of 8,000 pre-need interment/entombment arrangements.
“We are excited to have launched the construction of our new on-site funeral visitation and reception centre at Westminster Cemetery. This is a key development for Park Lawn’s presence in the Toronto market and plays an important part of our overall organic growth strategy of unlocking new sources of revenue from existing properties with higher margin operations,” said Park Lawn COO Jay Dodds in a statement.
“On-site funeral visitation centres provide us with opportunities to grow sales for our interment and entombment services and provide families with more choices for our cremation product lines.”
