Minto launches 20-storey Oakvillage phase 4 with geoexchange energy

Minto launches 20-storey Oakvillage phase 4 with geoexchange energy
MINTO — Minto’s Oakvillage North Oak residential tower in Oakville will be built to 20 storeys with 207 units.

OAKVILLE, ONT. — Minto Communities GTA recently announced the launch of its Oakvillage phase 4A residential tower in Oakville, west of Toronto.

The first of two towers, North Oak will feature the developer’s first multi-residential geoexchange energy system. Geoexchange energy systems can reduce carbon emissions by as much as 70 per cent, said Minto in a release.

The development is located at Trafalgar Road and Dundas Street East in north Oakville.

North Oak will be built to 20 storeys with 207 units, with architecture by BDP Quadrangle. The facade will feature articulation, metal accents and precast brick, aiming for “tactility,” the builder stated.

The phase 4A building will eventually be connected to the next phase via a double height “Neighbourhood Nest” lobby. The lobby is designed to be a social space, and it also serves as a resilient feature with a back-up power connection, communications system and critical goods refrigeration for use during emergencies, states the release.

Interiors are designed by Figure3 and include floor-to-ceiling windows. Every suite will have a balcony or terrace.

Suites are in configurations of one-bedroom, lofts, two-bedroom and two-bedrooms plus dens.

The geoexchange system uses renewable ground source energy to provide year-round heating and cooling. The system is designed so that future towers of the Oakvillage community can also be connected, creating a community energy system aligned with goals set out in the Town of Oakville’s Community Energy Plan, explained Minto.

Once completed, Oakvillage will offer a mix of traditional, back-to-back and rear-lane townhomes and condominiums. Among greenspace features, a 1.5-kilometre trail will be built to weave through the site.

“It is a proud moment for Minto Communities GTA to launch North Oak, which also marks our first project that will offer community energy through a geoexchange system that significantly reduces carbon emissions and enhances the value provided to our residents,” said Roya Khaleeli, a director of sustainability and innovation with Minto, in the statement. “Oakville is a really special town, and our site is surrounded by so much natural beauty that there was no question North Oak’s design would create seamless connections to the outdoors and push the envelope on sustainability.

“The Town of Oakville is committed to long-term energy planning and we’re excited to be part of the ongoing transformation of this wonderful community.”
