Busy times at Ontario One Call
The Ontario Regional Common Ground Alliance’s latest newsletter, distributed this morning, reports on an “unprecedented” volume of locate requests in recent weeks from Ontario One Call. A recent excavator survey indicated that around half of excavators expected work volumes to be above pre-pandemic levels, with around half saying it would be about the same as pre-pandemic times. Excavators reported that work volumes are up almost 50 per cent in April 2021 compared with April 2019, before the pandemic.
New Found Gold appoints Hurst to directorship
New Found Gold Corp. today announced the appointment of Douglas Hurst as a director of the company effective immediately. Hurst was part of the founding group of Newmarket Gold, which, following discovery of the high-grade Swan Zone at the company’s Fosterville mine, was sold to Kirkland Lake Gold in 2016 for approximately $1 billion. New Found holds a 100-per-cent interest in the Queensway Project, located 15 kilometres west of Gander, N.L., where there is a 200,000-metre drill program underway.
Suncor, ATCO explore hydrogen project
Suncor Energy and ATCO Ltd. announced today they are collaborating on early-stage design and engineering for a potential clean hydrogen project to be built near Fort Saskatchewan, Alta. The project would produce more than 300,000 tonnes of clean hydrogen per year. It is expected that 85 per cent of the produced hydrogen would be used to supply existing energy demand.
OGCA hosts vaccination workshop tomorrow
With vaccination registration now available to Ontario construction workers, tomorrow the Ontario General Contractors Association and Fasken LLP present a workshop titled Guidance for Construction and Establishing Your Workplace Vaccine Policy. The event begins at 10 a.m. via Zoom and will feature Ontario Chief Prevention Officer Ron Kelusky and Norm Keith, partner at Fasken LLP.
