SNC-Lavalin wins contract for Texas flood-mitigation planning

SNC-Lavalin wins contract for Texas flood-mitigation planning

MONTREAL—Quebec-based SNC-Lavalin Group has been awarded a US$10 million, three-year contract to help the Texas Water Development Board develop and update flood risk maps to support the implementation of the first state flood plan.

Under the contract, SNC-Lavalin will produce a statewide base-level engineering plan, supporting flood hazard mapping and planning activities to improve flood risk information and to implement flood mitigation strategies, stated a release.

Services include flood risk modelling and mapping, support for the board’s state and federal grant programs and related activities. The base-level engineering work will employ high-resolution ground elevation data and modelling technology to create engineering models that can identify areas prone to flooding.

“Flooding is one of the most common and costly disasters communities face today, threatening life and property,” said Ian Edwards, president and CEO of SNC-Lavalin, in a statement. “Our priority is to help reduce communities’ vulnerabilities to such natural disasters by providing climate adaptation tools, innovative solutions and guidance through flood resiliency expertise.”
