MINNEAPOLIS, MINN.—Construction is underway on the Malcolm Station Apartments in Minneapolis, Minn., Big-D Midwest Construction’s latest housing project.
The seven-storey apartment building, part of a large-scale neighbourhood development by The Wall Companies, features 210 units and 6,878 square feet of retail space and will be a key piece of ongoing development in the city, converting a former industrial area into a modern, mixed-use centre of activity, indicates a release.
Once completed, the new development will offer community-building amenities such as a social media content recording studio, gaming centre, pet spa, fitness centre, co-working spaces and a rooftop deck with views of the Twin Cities metro area.
The Malcolm Station Apartments will be the housing centre of the emerging Malcolm Yards neighbourhood, located just one block away from the 29th Street Light Rail Station, states a release, adding the neighbourhood will feature easy access to popular businesses like The Market at Malcolm Yards, Surly Brewing, and O’Shaughnessy Distillery. It will also include a new regional bike trail, creative parks and spaces and an arts program.
Big D Midwest has been working in collaboration with the development team at The Wall Companies and the building’s architect, Tushie Montgomery Architects, as well as Halverson and Blaiser Group, which will head up the property’s management.
“We are thrilled to be working with The Wall Companies on this exciting project,” said Chris Grzybowski, vice-president of Big-D Midwest, in a statement. “Their commitment to revitalizing this old industrial area and creating a community that is environmentally sustainable falls in line with our company’s values. Malcolm Yards, and the Malcolm Station Apartments, will be a great asset to the community for years to come.”
