CentreCourt unveils plans for new Pickering City Centre

CentreCourt unveils plans for new Pickering City Centre
CENTRECOURT — The new Pickering City Centre will be connected through a network of urban plazas and open spaces, intended to activate a sense of community, says the developer CentreCourt.

PICKERING, ONT. — CentreCourt Developments has unveiled plans to redevelop Pickering Town Centre Mall in Pickering, Ont. into a 55-acre multi-use community branded as Pickering City Centre.

The new community would feature 6,000 residences across 10 or more mixed-use towers and a revitalized Pickering Town Centre Mall, stated an Aug. 2 release. The build-out would be over the next decade.

CentreCourt purchased the mall and surrounding lands earlier this year. The plan has the support of Pickering Mayor Kevin Ashe, who spoke at the project launch.

Pickering City Centre will incorporate existing commercial, retail and institutional uses, including the Pickering Town Centre Mall and adjacent Pickering City Hall, and add new at-grade retail and pedestrian walkways.

The project has been designed by Diamond Schmitt Architects to also include a series of wide streets, parks and midblock landscaped courts designed to activate a sense of community, stated the release. The development will also feature a “virtual clinic” provided by the Cleveland Clinic.

“Pickering City Centre is an unparalleled opportunity to transform a cherished community hub into a modern downtown destination,” says Gavin Cheung, president of CentreCourt, in a statement. “As one of the fastest-growing submarkets in the Greater Toronto Area, Pickering is on the cusp of an exciting moment. We are proud to be a part of this natural evolution, and to ensure Pickering City Centre becomes a true, complete community that showcases some of the finest residential, retail, commercial and public spaces in the GTA for residents and visitors to enjoy.”
