Burlington LTC centre expansion kicks off

BURLINGTON, ONT. — The Ontario government has announced that construction is underway on a new 256-bed building for Maple Villa Long Term Care Centre in Burlington.

Construction of the new home will add 163 new beds to Maple Villa’s existing 93 beds, stated a release. The new building will feature larger resident common areas and air conditioning. The design is centred around resident home areas, intended to create a community-style living space for up to 32 residents, with dining and activity areas, lounges and bedrooms.

The expansion is expected to be completed in summer 2025.

The home is one of 67 long-term care home projects fast-tracked this fall with support from the government’s expanded construction funding subsidy.

As of April 2023, more than 40,000 people were on the waitlist to access a long-term care bed in Ontario. The median wait time is 123 days for applicants to be placed in long-term care.
