TORONTO — Pomerleau and Seeker Labs recently held a groundbreaking event for Catalyst, the first purpose-built life sciences project in more than two decades in Toronto.
Located at 77 Wade Ave., the 155,000-square-foot facility developed by Seeker Labs is being built in city’s Junction neighbourhood and will address the shortage of wet lab space in the region. The goal is to accelerate research and innovation in Toronto.
According to recent studies, the vacancy rate in the GTA life sciences market sits at 0.2 per cent and so many companies looking to scale up their operations end up having to look outside of the city, states a release, adding Catalyst is being designed to attract both domestic and international companies.
Designed by Dialog and built by Pomerleau the facility will be home to Canadian innovators and researchers.
Catalyst, which is pursuing LEED Gold certification, is slated for completion in the spring of 2025.
Guests at the groundbreaking, which includes members of both the AEC and life sciences communities, were treated to a preview of the project which included a 3D model of the lab building and site.
“Innovation is one of our core values at Pomerleau, so it is exciting to build for a client that shares this same value, as well as a commitment to progress, research and development,” said Michael Faustini, project director for Catalyst, who spoke at the event.
