TORONTO – Developer Mizrahi Development Group will no longer be retained as general contractor for its own 91-storey flagship project in downtown Toronto known as The One, multiple sources have reported.
The Toronto Star received an audio recording in which owner Sam Mizrahi said the firm has been relieved of its duties on the project.
SKYGRiD Construction will take over the GC role.
“One Bloor is one of the most prestigious addresses in Toronto and SKYGRiD is pleased to be taking on the construction management of this project and seeing The One through to completion,” the company wrote in a statement to the Daily Commercial News. “As an industry leader with over 200 complete projects delivered across the country and 40 currently active, SKYGRiD has the expertise to move the project forward by working collaboratively with all parties involved.”
Last October the Ontario Superior Court of Justice appointed Alvarez & Marsal Canada Inc. as receiver and manager with creditors seeking relief, citing significant debts.
The project was launched with a plan for condos and a hotel in 2015 with U.K. architects Foster+Partners as designers.
Its original 85-storey targeted height was raised to 91 storeys with City of Toronto approval last year.
Alvarez & Marsal have been reported as confirming the project will miss its planned completion date of March 2025.
