TORONTO – STRABAG has been awarded a fixed-price contract of $255 million to design, build and finance the second underground segment of the Eglinton Crosstown West Extension, a 500-metre tunnel from east of Jane Street to Mount Dennis Station.
The contract was awarded by Infrastructure Ontario (IO) and Metrolinx.
Enabling works for the project are underway and major construction is expected to begin later in 2024.
In addition to STRABAG Inc., which is developer, construction and financial adviser, the team includes WSP Canada Inc. and Dr. G. Sauer & Partners Corporation, responsible for design.
The project is the second tunnel package which will run between Jane Street and the future Mount Dennis Station. The first advance tunnel project is the first phase of work for the 9.2 kilometre extension of the Eglinton Crosstown LRT.
The Eglinton Crosstown West Extension is being delivered in separate procurement contracts: first advance tunnel between Renforth Drive and Scarlett Road; a second advance tunnel between Jane Street and Mount Dennis Station; an elevated guideway between Scarlett Road and Jane Street; and stations, rail and systems.
The project is being delivered through IO’s public-private partnership model.
