Lanterra to install major sculpture at Toronto Notting Hill project
LANTERRA — Notting Hill is a master-planned community that will feature four towers, two podiums, green spaces and parks.

TORONTO — Lanterra Developments has announced that British architectural firm Tonkin Liu will create its first permanent sculpture in Canada as part of a new public art project to be installed at Lanterra’s community development Notting Hill in Toronto.

The sculpture is slated for installation in early 2026 stated a release. Notting Hill is located at 4000 Eglinton Ave W. in Toronto’s west end.

Tonkin Liu is led by partners Anna Liu and Mike Tonkin. Lanterra has also partnered with OCAD University and the Etobicoke School of the Arts to fund a mentorship program led by Liu and Tonkin. Students will work with Liu as the Notting Hill art project proceeds through the research and design phase, the fabrication phase and the installation phase.

Tonkin Liu was awarded the commission after a selection process undertaken by an advisory committee of local artists along with Lanterra chairman Mark Mandelbaum and Richan Art principal Emma Richan.

One of studio’s most notable works includes The Singing Ringing Tree, a sculpture in Burnley, which was selected as one of 21 landmarks that define Britain in the 21st century.

Notting Hill is a master-planned community that will feature four towers, two podiums, green spaces and parks. There will be 1,275 condominium suites across the community’s towers with a mix of one-bedroom, two-bedroom and three-bedroom suites and bachelor units.

“Lanterra is committed to upholding the cultural and social value that public art brings to not only our condominiums but the city of Toronto at large,” said Mandelbaum. “We were moved by Tonkin Liu’s proposal with their unique take on bringing inspiration from her roots in London, England to Toronto’s very own Notting Hill. We are honoured to commission their very first Canadian project.”
