Renovation slated for Confederation Centre of the Arts in P.E.I.

CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I.Confederation Centre of the Arts in Charlottetown will be revitalized to reduce the facility’s energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.

The federal and provincial governments are providing a combined investment of more than $47 million for the project.

The renovations consist of upgrades to the heating, ventilation, air conditioning system, the installation of windows, insulation, lighting and meter and control equipment and new solar panels will also be installed. The interior will be reconfigured using mass timber for energy efficiency and lower carbon emissions.

The project will create greener spaces for programming and learning opportunities.

“As this year marks the 60th anniversary of the Confederation Centre of the Arts, we acknowledge its evolution into a hub for Canada’s storytelling through arts and culture,” said Sean Casey, MP for Charlottetown, in a statement.

“We trust that residents of Charlottetown will celebrate the transformation of the building, thanks to this investment prioritizing energy efficiency in a space where they can thrive and learn.”
