Gardiner will close for 35 hours this weekend for repair work

TORONTO – The Gardiner Expressway will be closed for maintenance and repairs this weekend.

The highway will close on Friday, Sept. 20 at 11 p.m. and reopen on Sunday, Sept. 22 at 10 a.m. According to the City of Toronto’s Facebook page, the one-time, 35-hour closure lets the city do the work of over 30 overnight lane closures all at once, which means less hassle for drivers and it also saves money.

During this closure, crews will be resurfacing the lanes, fixing cracks and potholes, replacing guiderails, and removing any loose concrete from the underside. Crews will also inspect and fix signs and lights, clear catch basins to prevent flooding and clean up debris and graffiti. Repairs will also be done on the Dufferin Street Bridge.

The York on-ramp will also be closed, but will reopen by 5 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 23.
