WOODBRIDGE, ONT. — Hanon Systems has announced it will build a new 284,000-square-foot automotive parts facility in Woodbridge, Ont.
The new $155-million plant will manufacture e-compressors, a component for electric vehicles, creating 300 jobs, stated a release.
Headquartered in South Korea, Hanon is a global automotive thermal management supplier for electrical vehicles. Ontario became home to Hanon Systems’ first manufacturing site in 1989. The company now employs over 970 employees across their Belleville and Concord facilities, supplying automakers across the continent.
The new Woodbridge facility will be North America’s first e-compressor plant, with the capability to produce up to 900,000 e-compressors annually.
Ontario will contribute $10 million to the project through its Invest Ontario Fund.
“We are pleased to expand our manufacturing presence in Ontario to increase proximity to vehicle manufacturers and better meet customer demand,” said Hanon CEO Nurdal Kuukkaya in a statement. “This expansion also demonstrates our commitment to growth and proves customer confidence in our ability to deliver electric compressors to the market.”
“We investigated several locations for the new plant,” said co-CEO Subu Nagasubramony. “Our partnership with the government of Ontario and Invest Ontario has been a significant element in our decision. We are proud to foster local community development and the growth of its economy.”
Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade Vic Fedeli added, “Hanon System’s investment in Woodbridge will create hundreds of local jobs for our world-class auto workers and strengthen our reputation as a North American leader in automotive manufacturing.”
Over the last four years, Ontario has attracted $45 billion in new investments from global automakers, parts suppliers, manufacturers of EV batteries and battery materials.
