Development at Hamilton airport breaks ground
BIDDLE CARSON DEVELOPMENTS — Plans for a new, $15-million, 100,000-square-foot facility at John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport have been unveiled. The fixed-base operator facility will be located at the airport’s northeast end and will feature three separate hangars.

Construction plans for a new, $15-million, 100,000-square-foot facility at John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport have been unveiled.

The multi-use, fixed-base operator (FBO) facility will be located at the airport’s northeast end and will feature three separate state-of-the-art hangars, designed to incorporate an array of services from a lounge and conference room to a second-floor observation deck for viewing aircraft arrivals and departures.

The facility will also have access to the airfield through Hamilton International’s newest taxiway, Taxiway Foxtrot, and road access via a recently constructed roadway, Aviation Drive.

The airport’s newest land development is being spearheaded by Biddle Carson Developments (BCD), a developer that is co-owned by 214 Carson Co. a real estate, development, construction, mergers and acquisitions/financing and property maintenance firm, as well as agriculture and transportation entrepreneur Scott Biddle.

According to Brooke Hayward, CEO of 214 Carson Co., there was no bidding process. The building was designed by in-house developers and will be 100 per cent privately funded.

“Biddle Carson Developments is extremely excited to be taking off on our next adventure with Hamilton International,” Hayward said. “Our desire to invest in the Hamilton Region will enhance the accessibility and convenience of air travel, as well as provide our aviation partners with a world class facility and ultimate amenities.”

BCD has already secured two tenants for the hangar space with private aircraft charter FlyXcite occupying 30,000 square feet and bespoke helicopter and fixed wing completion specialists Aerofina Aviation occupying 20,000 square feet. The third 50,000 square foot hangar is scheduled to be available for occupancy within the next two years.

A phased approach to construction will see the first phase of the facility completed in late 2025.

“This second development less than one year since opening the Northeast Airport Development underscores how Hamilton International is providing solutions for partners looking for high-quality commercial space and positions Hamilton International as a continued driver of investment, innovation, and business growth in the City of Hamilton,” said Cole Horncastle, the airport’s executive managing director.

The new FBO is expected to boost operations at Hamilton International and the local economy by creating jobs, attracting complementary aviation-related operations and enhancing tourism with increased passenger traffic.

This development is among other significant projects at the airport over the past four years, including Cargojet in 2021, KF Aerospace in 2022 and Latitude Aeromedical in 2023.

The John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport, owned by the City of Hamilton and managed by TradePort International Corporation, is a growing international gateway for travel and is Canada’s largest overnight express freight airport.

“The new Hamilton Airport FBO is a significant milestone for Biddle Carson Developments, showcasing our commitment to building quality infrastructure that fuels local growth,” said Biddle.

“We’re excited about how this facility will position Hamilton as a key destination in Canada’s aviation landscape, making travel smoother for both business and leisure travellers. Partnering with our flagship tenants, FlyXcite and Aerofina Aviation — global leaders in aircraft innovation — adds tremendous value to this project, and we’re proud to work alongside them to bring this vision to life.”
