Massive Lakeridge Logistics Centre achieves ZCB design certification

Massive Lakeridge Logistics Centre achieves ZCB design certification
PURE INDUSTRIAL — The 1.2-million-square-foot Lakeridge Logistics Centre property in Ajax, Ont. has achieved the Canada Green Building Council’s Zero-Carbon Building™ (ZCB) Design certification.

AJAX, ONT. — Pure Industrial, a provider of industrial real estate, has announced its 1.2 million square foot Lakeridge Logistics Centre (LLC) property has achieved the Canada Green Building Council’s Zero-Carbon Building™ (ZCB) Design certification, becoming one of the largest industrial properties in Canada to do so.

Located in Ajax, Ont., the LLC’s sustainability features include:

  • a high-performance envelope and efficient mechanical systems;
  • solar power generated onsite, designed to meet a portion of the building’s energy load;
  • air quality filtration;
  • alternative transportation options, including public transit, bicycles and electric vehicles; and
  • a fully integrated building automation system.

“Lakeridge Logistics Centre’s Zero Carbon Building Design certification demonstrates the growing demand for low-carbon industrial real estate and the business case for energy-efficient, electrified buildings” said Mark Hutchinson, senior vice-president, green building programs and innovation with the Canada Green Building Council. “As one of the largest industrial projects to achieve this certification, it sets a strong precedent for how industrial developments can reduce emissions while enhancing asset value, improving operational efficiency, and supporting Canada’s transition to a net-zero economy.”

The building also includes increased incoming electrical capacity to support existing and future electrification needs, a solar-ready roof for expanded usage, when needed, and electrified heating systems, which “play a key role in enabling LLC to be zero-carbon and are built to protect against future carbon tax and regulatory requirements,” the release reads.
